Learner’s permit

“No wonder Edward was such a crazy driver,” I muttered. “Who’s Edward?” Elyssa asked. “You know, from Twilight.” John Corwin, Dark Light of Mine

Our daughter is driving.

She wants to know. “Why can’t I drive with both feet — the left on the brake, the right on the gas?”

Unsure of the proper answer, I respond: “Normal people don’t drive that way. It’s not safe. Only stunt drivers do that.”

Which immediately makes me wonder if it’s too late to learn how to execute a perfect moonshiner’s turn.

I glance her way, suspecting a similar thought is brewing in the driver’s seat.

  1. Though I’m not sure anyone enjoyed the anxiety of the process, I sure enjoyed retiring the “Mom taxi “ business when both my girls could drive.

      1. I’m pretty sure both my daughters would say I have no wisdom to pass along on the subject—just don’t kill them!

  2. OMG you reminded me of when my dad drove! He drove with one foot on the brake and one on the accelerator. If you were behind him the brake light was always lit! He constantly touched the brake pedal so you never knew when he was going to stop! I don’t know how he never got rear ended..lol

    1. 🙂 Dads! I laugh because our daughters have pointed out that neither my husband nor I are that great at parallel parking, which is a necessity in our city. “How will we ever learn?” the younger one wailed recently. I think she’s plotting to show us up.
